2008/9 NSTF Awards Honouring and Celebrating Outstanding Contributions to Science, Engineering and Technology (SET)

Call for Nominations: 2008/9 NSTF Awards for outstanding Contributions to Science, Engineering and Technology (SET)

Nominations are now called for the prestigious 2008/9 NSTF Awards. We are calling for a two stage submission.

  • (First stage): submissions of ‘Notice of Intent to nominate’ a particular candidate, which should be submitted by the 12th November 2008. We will then acknowledge receipt of the ‘Notice of intent to nominate’ and supply a full nomination form by e-mail for
  • (Stage two) submission of a nomination with full documentation no later than the 6 February 2009.  There will be no extension of this deadline.

All forms are now available and the earliest submission will assist us greatly.

Notice of Intent to Nominate
We prefer that you register this Notice of Intent online. If you experience any difficulties in this regard, the form can be forwarded by the NSTF Office on request.

Nomination forms
The full nomination forms will be sent either by e-mail or by post if requested, on receipt of a Notice of Intent to Nominate. The forms have been designed to be applicable to particular nominations and therefore the Notice of Intent must indicate the categories in which the nominee is to be nominated. A motivation together with the form and a brief CV will be required as before, and must be submitted with the Nomination forms before 9 February 2009. Nominees are requested to co-ordinate the submission of these notices to avoid duplication where possible.

NSTF Awards categories
Categories (D, E and F including full definitions) were revised this year and we will again be recognizing and celebrating three teams or individuals in either a corporate organisation, or an SMME or an NGO/NPO that have made outstanding contributions to science, engineering and technology, which has led to innovation in science, engineering or technology, based on research carried out in South Africa. The wording of the definitions has been modified in order to clarify the intent.

We continue with the three categories dedicated to contributions by individuals A, B and C, and category G (including full definitions) specifically recognises research capacity development in science, engineering and technology. Categories H and J (including full definitions) are awards for black scientists who are role models for others. We also continue with the new category introduced last year - category K (including full definition), that rewards communicators (including writers, editors and journalists) who make outstanding contributions to science, engineering and technology through communication.
