NSTF Awards Radio Talk Show - MFM (Stellenbosch University's campus radio station) will be interviewing Dr Tania Douglas on 31 July at 11:15

By combining biology and medicine with engineering, biomedical engineers develop devices and procedures that solve medical and health-related problems. NSTF Award Winner, Dr Tania Douglas is a biomedical engineer at the MRC/UCT Medical Imaging Research Unit in the UCT Department of Human Biology. Having completed an undergraduate degree in traditional electrical engineering, Dr Douglas works in the field of medical imaging, which includes X-ray, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging. More specifically, research that Dr Douglas is involved in includes identifying Foetal Alcohol Syndrome in children using photographs followed by a process of automatic facial feature recognition, the development of a smart microscope for automatic detection of TB in sputum smears and digital mammography.

A Web cast profiling the work of the two female NSTF Award winners for 2005/2006, Dr Douglas and Prof Candy Lang will be streamed from the NSTF Awards Web site on Women's Day 9 August 2006. You are encouraged to post questions to the NSTF Awards Discussion Forum (http://nstfawards.org.za/discussions.htm), which will be addressed in the live radio talk show.

Corporate organisations and companies are encouraged to extend this invitation to staff, using the company intranet, to participate in the NSTF Awards Discussion Forum in order to benefit from the wealth of knowledge held by these leaders in the Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) sector.
